On the Crater Lake Tour, it is a good idea to bring a medium to
heavy jacket(temperatures are usually in the 40's to 70's however the
wind blows strong all the time, and you are going to hike to 8,000+ ft
in elevation; the earlier in the year, the cooler it will be.
Snow is often seen on shaded slopes even in September from the previous
winter), hiking boots, long sleeves, long pants( I never have
understood people who wear shorts to Crater Lake(most people
freeze)),backpack, a water bottle or canteen, several light snacks(in
case of need for a nutrition break; meals will be served around noon or
1 or 2 depending on the hikes, conditions, and the people on our tour),
sunscreen(just in case; you never know), raincoat(This is Oregon and at
these altitudes the rain is cold), a hooded sweatshirt(they come in
very handy to cut the wind), and a camera(and plenty of film...there
are shops to buy film; however, if you run out on a hike; it is kinda
hard to run down the 8,000 ft mountain to buy more). Some hikes
will be easy; 3 hikes will be very strenuous and difficult(Mt
Scott(7,450 to 8,929 feet and 5 miles round trip),Garfield Peak(7,050
to 8,060 feet and 3.4 miles round trip), and Cleetwood Cove(6,850 to
6,176 feet 2.2 miles round trip)).
